Hi, I’m Alyx Royz, a senior illustrator and concept artist based in Prague, Czech Republic.
I’ve been working professionally in illustration and visual development for over a decade, creating artwork for video games, tabletop RPGs, card and board games, publishing, and other entertainment projects. My work is primarily focused on fantasy and realistic illustration, character and environment design, key art, and visual storytelling.
Over the years, I’ve contributed artwork to projects for Darrington Press, Dire Wolf Digital, Cubicle 7 Games, Ulisses Spiele, Nuare Studio, Cosmodrome Games, and other studios and publishers. My recent work includes illustrations for Daggerheart by Darrington Press and artwork for RISK: Global Domination.
My background combines traditional 2D concept development with a strong 3D workflow. Depending on the project, I work from early sketches and visual exploration through 3D block-outs, sculpting and modeling to final rendered illustration. I particularly enjoy projects where believable environments, characters and creatures need to communicate a larger story rather than simply look good in isolation.
My work has received several awards, including the Ursa Major Award for Best Published Illustration for Adventurers & Explorers, as well as three Leo Literary Awards for book cover illustration. I also contributed artwork to the Daggerheart Core Set, winner of the 2026 Gold ENNIE Award for Best Game.
Alongside commercial work, I develop my own narrative projects and worlds. In 2025, I published my fantasy novel The Legend of Alyx, which grew out of the same interest in characters, atmosphere and worldbuilding that runs through much of my visual work.
I have a degree in Graphic Design and have continued studying illustration, concept art, environment design and 3D throughout my career.
I’m currently available for freelance and contract work worldwide, particularly in games, tabletop, publishing and narrative-driven projects.
